The Quadrado, village surroundings or beach?
Compare locations first. In every area, comfort and quiet depend on the property, its neighbours and the time of year.

Staying near the Quadrado
If you enjoy going out to dinner and exploring the village, proximity to the Quadrado is a useful starting point. But two properties described as “near the Quadrado” may involve very different walks.
Check the route to the property entrance, walking conditions and arrival with luggage. If you travel with young children or someone with limited mobility, ask about the route and access within the property.
Staying near the beach
If the sea is your priority, check access first. “Near the beach”, “sea view” and “beachfront” mean different things. Ask whether there is direct access to the sand, a walk, steps or a need for transport.
Consider the return journey after dinner, meals at the property and the outings you want to take. Being by the sea does not guarantee quiet: activity, events and neighbours vary by location and season.
Pousada, boutique hotel or house with hotel services?
The label alone does not define comfort. A pousada is a Brazilian guesthouse or small inn; a hotel may offer individual houses; a holiday rental may require you to arrange services separately. Compare what each booking includes.
- Hotel or pousada: review the accommodation spaces, available services, service hours and privacy.
- Holiday rental: check the layout, housekeeping, linen, meals and who provides support during your stay.
- House with hotel services: can combine individual living spaces with assistance from a team. Ask for the property’s specific inclusions.

When to book and how long to stay?
